Description
One of the best views of Giotto’s Bell Tower in Florence Italy is from the dome of the cathedral. Of course, that means you first have to do the 463 step dome climb! Giotto's bell tower is one of the principal monuments on the Piazza del Duomo, standing next to the Florence Cathedral (Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore) and the Baptistry of St John. It is nearly 85 m tall and about 15 m across. It is a beautiful example of 14th century Gothic architecture in Florence with its decorative white, red and green marble details. After the climb back down you will feel perfectly justified in rewarding yourself with some famous Italian gelato.

A marvelous image of Giotto's magnificent bell tower, Joan. Brings back memories of a 5-day stay in a little inn a half a block away and being awakened every morning by its sonorous bell. Thanks! f/l/tw
